Mr. Gamal's Gratitude Glasses
Gratitude is a very important quality and a huge part of our deen. Having gratitude in your life is not just saying the words Alhamdulilah, but true gratitude is feeling contentment and peace in your heart with everything you face, even the hard stuff. Gratitude, according to Mr. Gamal, is being “thankful for everything you have and everything you experience.” This teaches one to look for the good lessons in everything, even bad experiences.
The Prophet (pbuh) says: Wondrous is the affair of a believer, as there is good for him in every matter...If he experiences pleasure, he thanks Allah and it is good for him. If he experiences harm, he shows patience and it is good for him.”
Allah says in the Quran: “If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]”
True Iman is only possible with reacting to life with true gratitude, and gratitude also is in and itself a cause of more positive blessings from Allah!
This book by Ruqaya's Bookshelf is a wonderful lesson in gratitude for children, and a great reminder for parents. Mr. Gamal, a teacher, buys some colorful glasses from the dollar store and passes them out to his class. He tells them that when they face something negative in their life, to look through the colored lens and think of a positive thought in the situation. The kids present their experiences at the end of the week, and even teach Mr. Gamal a lesson about finding something positive when he find the class messy and disorganized
This book is one of our favorites and the pictures are so goofy and cute! My kids even grabbed some sunglasses and started experimenting on their own, trying to find the positive in everything around them.
May Allah help us all in finding the positive and being truly grateful to Allah for all that we have been blessed with. Alhamdulilah
