Raihanna's First Time Fasting
My kids really loved this book and honestly I think it just might become a Ramadan favorite for us🌟🌟⠀ ⠀ The book starts the night before Ramadan with decoration preparing by Raihanna and her family. She asks her mom how Ramadan begins and lots of fun information is given to her like the sighting of the Crescent Moon and the fact that Ramadan is the ninth month in the lunar calendar. The story continues with her first day of fasting and many Islamic themes are present throughout like prayer, reading Quran before bed, and a big section on making Duaa and how important it is in Ramadan! This part was my absolute favorite, especially seeing the little girls cute prayers and her cute concerns that were so reflective and relatable to any little girl.⠀ ⠀ Raihanna does fine with fasting until she gets to school and then a snacktime cookie and some friends’ questions remind her of her hunger. Her mother listens to her complaints and then takes her to the homeless shelter to help out- to keep her busy and also to see how homeless people and the poor are hungry all the time.⠀ ⠀ I like how her Mom explains to her that one of the aspects of fasting is realizing how blessed a person is, being grateful for blessings, and helping those in need!⠀ ⠀ Raihanna finishes her fasting day with her family at Iftar and makes another prayer thanking Allah❤️⠀ ⠀ The last page of the book is a place for the kids to write their own prayers and to write what they are grateful for.⠀ ⠀ I really love this book and how it shows a child fasting for the first time, and how though it might be difficult, they can last the whole day and feel very accomplished! I like how her mom approached her complaints about being hungry and kept her busy and she didn’t force her to fast but she didn’t make it something easily broken either (Fasting is not a must for children). Her mom showed her reasons for fasting, taught her about the importance of Ramadan, and kept her busy. This is very nice to see in a book!⠀ ⠀ This year was the first year my own son fasted and this book was super relatable!❤️⠀ ⠀ Get yours from my amazon page (under Ramadan Books for Kids)
