The Yellow Cow

If you are looking for an adorable colorful Islamic board book for your toddler, than this is for you.⠀ ⠀ @thejollyanimals mission is to make board books about animals in the Quran, while not being overly preachy to children. It is told in the way of a guessing game, and the reader is told to guess what the animal is. Children love books like this, where they are given clues and are able to interact with the text!⠀ ⠀ This book is about the yellow cow of Banu Israel (the one on which Surah AlBaqarah is based). The story begins with Banu Israel after they had settled far away from Pharoah and began a new life. A wealthy man is murdered and there is a big uproar to find out the murderer, so the people go to consult Prophet Musa (AS). He tells them to slaughter a cow, but instead of following his orders right away, they continue to ask in disbelief and make fun of the orders he gave. They rudely ask Prophet Musa (AS) to ask “his” Lord details about the cow (another sign of their disbelief in Allah, seeing as they did not say “our” Lord.) They continue to question until they are given details that can only mean one cow, and once found (after hardships) they reluctantly sacrifice it and lay it on the dead body (per Prophet Musa (as) instructions.) The dead body is momentarily resurrected and says who the murderer is.⠀ ⠀ The cow is described in Surah AlBaqarah: Ayah 67-71 and the descriptions are perfectly taught in this board book. The ayahs describe it as a yellow cow free from blemish or spots, a cow that does not do any hard work and stays clean, and a cow that is of middle age and not too young or too old. The book perfectly displays these characteristics through beautiful pictures and wonderful rhyming verses. ⠀ ⠀ I am going to be honest: I always read through the verses of Surah AlBaqarah, not understanding the descriptions and characteristics of the yellow cow. This book was really helpful for me to learn the tafseer of those ayahs and remember them more clearly and so next time I will understand what I am reciting.⠀ ⠀ This book is perfect for toddlers and up!⠀ ⠀ Get yours from the Jolly Animals for 20 usd.
